ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
BENDING THE CURVE ON CARBONIZATION TO ADVANCE SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
STRATEGIC IMPACT AREAS
We take seriously our responsibility to address the challenges of climate change and to do our part to accelerate the impact of sustainable mobility.
Two strategic areas — decarbonization and circularity — will help drive us there.
EASING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
Within the transport sector, currently the largest source of the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are related to medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. International® is dedicating resources to measure and reduce the impacts of our business on the environment. The foundational step in our decarbonization plans involves using energy efficiently.
EXPLORE
TOWARD A NET-ZERO FUTURE
Net zero is the elimination of all greenhouse gas emissions produced by human activity. Electric vehicles can, depending on the emissions profile of the electricity used to charge them, enable a fully zero-emissions footprint when charged with zero fossil fuel energy. International is focused on providing customers with consulting and insights about the process and benefits of battery-electric vehicle adoption.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND
SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS
SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS
Science-based targets (SBTs) are greenhouse gas reduction goals for businesses aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement. International is committed to submitting targets for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an independent group that validates corporate targets.
EXPLORE
TOWARD A CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Circularity focuses on maximizing resources and minimizing waste. From raw materials to remanufacturing and recycling, we are committed to environmental stewardship across the lifecycle of our solutions. This includes evaluating energy and materials used in production, energy that fuels product distribution, and how customers use our products.
ACCELERATE THE IMPACT 2023 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
REDUCE
International took a major step to cut waste at our Powertrain Plant in Huntsville, Alabama, reducing annual wastewater disposal by 99.3% using evaporation technology and other methods. This saved 97.2% on hauling and disposal costs.
REUSE
Donating trucks and buses to train future technicians gives our vehicles extended life. International also refurbishes and reuses its IT equipment wherever possible to divert toxic metals from the environment and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
REMANUFACTURE
Granting new life to worn products, International regularly sells and distributes approximately 3,000 remanufactured parts annually. Four central facilities collect and refurbish parts to support circularity — and our goal is to generate 20% of parts revenue from remanufactured parts.
RECYCLE
In 2023, 86% of all our waste generated was recycled through programs implemented to recycle cardboard, pallets and other packaging materials. We aim to shape the circular economy, continuously improve our recycling rates, and become a less resource-intensive company.
